We are proud to welcome Elenor Goldfield. Eleanor is a community organizer, creative radical and journalist. Ever since she started organizing in 2002 she has worked to incorporate art as message, the medium, a salve, an inspiration, and a disturbance. From fronting a political hard rock band that played with Tom Morello to setting up art shows at underpasses, art in all its forms is a tactic, a way to struggle with the world we have, and an example of the world to come, the world we can build.
“I feel incredibly honored to be a conduit for these artists in Gaza. And I will continue to do this work until Palestine is Free.”
From Gaza to Gaza is a multi-artist exhibit and art sale featuring art by artists currently in Gaza. All of the money raised tonight goes directly to the artists, nothing is deducted for printing costs.
Each artist uses the money to purchase what supplies they can find, supplies that are available only at absurd costs, i.e. a bag of flour can be $200, a tent currently costs $1000...and if you can find a standing building, rent costs have soared to $4000 a month.
Funds are used for a variety of personal and community efforts, and to purchase what supplies people can find to survive. Sometimes Assaf uses money to buy supplies for the kids in the camps, be it paints or stuffed animals to try and bring them a small sliver of normalcy. Dr. Khalil Khalidy uses the funds from his art sales to split between his fellow doctors in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza. We don't often stop to think about it but of course no one is getting paid to work during a genocide. Doctors, literally working to keep a culture alive, work in grueling conditions for upwards of 20 hours without adequate medical supplies or food.
The fine art prints are museum quality and are $100+ each, not including a frame. Prints purchased can be taken that night. Prints purchased after that will be available for pickup at the end of the exhibit period. Even prints that have already been purchased can be re-printed, just contact Eleanor for more information and to set up the sale.
